Public Transit and the Existential Long Ride to Nowhere

So I had this dream. No, not the poetic kind that inspires revolutions or tugs at the heartstrings of sensitive art majors — I mean the kind that smacks you in the subconscious like a malfunctioning space cruiser autopilot.

Picture this: a weirdly futuristic bus. Longer than usual. Mid-entry only. No ticket, no ride. Tickets bought at the entrance — not in advance, not from a person, but through some vending machine-style authority. And the driver? He doesn’t care. Doesn’t scan, doesn’t question. He’s just there to drive. Revolutionary stuff, right?

Oh, and the driver’s on the left. Yeah. The left side. Not the usual UK right-side cockpit of doom. Which means either I was in some alternate timeline, or my subconscious is starting to gentrify logic and rewrite traffic laws.

The bus is nearly empty. Quiet. We’re at the tail end of the route. No stress, no crowd of loudmouths chewing gum like it’s a personality trait. Just me, sitting on a bench near the front, talking to the driver like I’ve suddenly become the chill, observant type instead of the guy yelling into the cosmic void about entropy.

And what do I do? I talk about the bus design. Yeah. Like I’m a city planner or some transport nerd who actually enjoys dissecting bureaucratic upgrades. But here’s the thing — the tone? Calm. Peaceful. Reflective, even. No alien invasions, no high-speed collisions, just a slow cruise toward… something. Maybe the end of a chapter. Maybe a dimensional shift into whatever comes next.

Because this wasn’t about getting somewhere. It was about how I was traveling. Autonomy. Structure. Escape routes at the front and rear. Minimal interference. Maximum weirdness.

Interpret it how you want — but if life is a long bus ride, maybe the trick isn’t finding the fastest route. Maybe it’s getting on the right vehicle, sitting near the front, and watching how the thing’s built while everyone else argues about fares.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got metaphysical maintenance to perform and probably a few alternate selves to outsmart.
